Friday night wonderings

Posted by richard shaw on Friday, October 29, 2010, In : Thoughts
Does anyone other than my girlfriend actually read the blog post. should I be just using Facebook to communicate with those that like my photos. Just a thought and perhaps the response will bring about a change in how I do things. Happy Friday to all those that take the time to read this.

A new week and some new images.

Posted by richard shaw on Monday, October 18, 2010, In : Image
Just a few more abstract sightings from around my garden. It's amazing what there is to be photographed just in your immediate surroundings. My garden is SMALL but the inspiration it supplies is vast. I hope you enjoy them.

Distracted

Posted by richard shaw on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, In : Image
Sorry it's been a few days since my last post. But I have been distracted. I do have some good photos to show for it though. Or at least I will do once I have edited them. I am currently trying to get to grips with Adobe Lightroom 3. The work flow is going to be easier I think using this. That is its primary function. As with anything though, it is not perfect, so I won't be ditching Photoshop any-time soon. Here are a couple of images I have edited with Lightroom 3. Wanderings around Aucklan...

A Colourful Garden

Posted by richard shaw on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, In : Image
Finding interesting rusty objects isn't very difficult. Here is some images from my garden. The colours that form through oxidisation always amaze me, deep reds, vibrant oranges, smoky yellows and rich brown tones. All make for some very colourful images. Don't forget to check out the galleries for more images.

Stormy Friday

Posted by richard shaw on Friday, September 17, 2010, In : Image
Well the biggest storm in the world is heading to NZ this weekend. Indeed outside looks like it may have already landed. So opportunities for photos are going to be slim outside this weekend. I may try and be creative inside instead. But for now here is an image I took of storm clouds at Orewa beach. You can find it in the urban gallery and is also available to purchase.

Fridays colour is not very colourful

Posted by richard shaw on Thursday, September 9, 2010, In : Image
This is a close up abstract of a piece of wooden hand rail. The wood naturally turns silvery grey over time and this piece of wood was no exception. I didn't do anything to the image except crop and sharpen. So although it appears a black and white photo it is in fact colour. This one can be found in the Urban Gallery I hope you enjoy and have a good weekend everyone.

Texture

Posted by richard shaw on Monday, September 6, 2010, In : Image
Texture is one of the attractions to me when photographing rust and oxidisation. Oxidisation is actually a very destructive process and often has a devastating effect on man made objects. This is a tractor pedal, encrusted with rust and slowly been eaten alive. I hope you like it.

Negatives are most definitely positive!

Posted by richard shaw on Thursday, September 2, 2010, In : Image
Turning colour and black and white photos into a negative image can create some really funky images. Hope you enjoy. This was a blurred beach shot with bokeh highlights.

Where to be Photo social

Posted by richard shaw on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, In : Thoughts
Where to be photo social? That is the question that is causing my mind to spin like a washing machine, around and around and then back the other way. There are many photo sharing sites out there, Flickr, deviantART, Redbubble, Smugmug, to name but a few. Some have big social followings (Flickr and deviantART) some not so big.

They all have there draw backs NONE is perfect. Deviant art has a massive social following, but the site design and functionality is confusing and their sales commission...

So the weekend is here and I have two goldfish now to keep me company. They are recent birthday additions to my household.

But here is an image that has the same effect as gold fish, tranquil, calming and interesting to look at. I hope you think the same. This image can be found in the green gallery, surprise surprise. Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Restoration website

Posted by richard shaw on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, In : Restoration
As well as taking lots of abstract photos I'm also a professional photo restorer too. I have been doing this for many years as an employee for others. I've decided to see if I can make a living from this, or at least earn a crust. below is an example of the kind of thing that I do.

Happy Birthday Me...

Posted by richard shaw on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, In : News
Today is my birthday, I suppose I should share some deep insightful wisdom with you, but I have none worth sharing. So instead I shall show you some of my very favourite images that were a catalyst for this whole adventure. These can be found as you might have guessed in the oxidised gallery. They were taken a year and a half ago on a ferry.....

New additions

Posted by richard shaw on Sunday, August 22, 2010,
A couple of new addition to the oxidised folder today. I like strong graphical shapes in my abstracts and these two both have this I feel. The colour and warmth is also a strong feature. They can be viewed in the Oxidised gallery too, I hope you enjoy them.

Friday Colour

Posted by richard shaw on Thursday, August 19, 2010, In : Image
It's Friday so lets have some colour today. I have a number of ongoing themes which I will be adding to over the next few months/years. The intention is to make a collection large enough to compose a book of my best works in each of these themes.

One of those themes is 'Green' a collection of abstracts featuring Green as the prominent colour. So just to wet your appetite a little here are a few images from the collection so far. Have a great weekend everyone.

On the run

Posted by richard shaw on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, In : Image
One of the great things about rust is the shapes that occur. This is image is the result of oxidisation occurring as water ran down the side of a galvanised metal trailer.

Oxidised - Green Oil.

Posted by richard shaw on Monday, August 16, 2010, In : Image
This is an image I took a few years back now but fits well into the oxidised category. It was actually taken at Auckland Zoo. I think it has an environmental message as well as great colours with the lush green grass against the red rusting oil barrel.

Hello world

Posted by richard shaw on Sunday, August 15, 2010, In : Image
'Hello world' is the traditional phrase used to test computer programs and other such communication tools. So as this is my first post and also a greeting to all, I say hello world and welcome to my world of abstract images.

The image below is used as the header of website. It is a bokeh blur of rippled sand taken on a wet beach in bright sunlight.

About Me

Richard Shaw After being a keen photographer for many years, I have finally found my niche and the courage to share it with the world. Having been bogged down for what seems like an eternity with jobs, money and family life, I found my creativity being stifled. So as I carve out a new life and follow new paths my love of photography and my passion for interesting images is returning. Here are my visions, my apparitions of light - of shape, of colour and texture. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy capturing them.
